What to do if you find an injured or poorly bird

Contain the bird yourself:
You may be the best or only hope the bird has. If necessary use an item of clothing to hold them in while you find a better solution. You can wash your hands later.

Contact the sanctuary:
columbasanctuary@gmail.com
Contact us using the form below or email the sanctuary with the subject line RESCUE. Please include the date, time, and location where the bird was found including any additional information about the bird's situation.
Please also include your phone number, a photo or short video of the bird, and a description of any injury or unusual behaviour. The sanctuary will contact you as soon as possible.

Create a temporary home:
Temporarily house the bird in a pet carrier or sturdy box with air holes lined with a towel placed in a quiet environment indoors away from pets and children.  Do not worry about giving the bird food or water.

In extreme circumstances:
If the bird clearly has life threatening injuries and is in a lot of pain, please take them to Minster Emergency Vets in York and ask them to contact Columba Sanctuary should the bird be rehab-able.
